I am 1 of 3 partners. 2 of us agree and work very hard. 1 is lazy and has not generated any business. We have an Agreement that states we must be unanimous to dissolve. We would like to kick him out because he does nothing for the progress or good of the company. Is there any legal rights to do so? We feel he has been riding our coattails since our business started. Any help would be appreciated.

One Response to “How do I get rid of an equal but lazy business partner?”

  1. New York City Job Listings Says:

You need to sit down with this person and discuss your concerns with his performance. Is this agreement you have about a unanimous vote to dissolve a legal one or an informal one? Does this unanimous vote apply to other business issues as well? If after you talk to the person they dont agree to do better you can always offer to buy them out and then it would just be the two of you involved. If you already have legal documents that have been drawn up then you need to consult with an attorney and seek resoultion. If you dont do this right it could cost you a great deal of money and ultimatley your business itself. Tread with care in this matter and get professional help before you make any final decisions. Good Luck
