There are a few things to consider… one is getting references on your character and the other to find your target market. Many people have trusted friends, family and neighbors that will do that kind of thing for free so you might want to make yourself different from a free service and worth the fees you charge. Think about other services you can do while in the homes besides just plant care. It’s one thing for someone who knows you to give you a key but quite another for a stranger to trust you and to pay you. This is not to talk you out of doing it but to talk you into making sure you know your own value as an entrepreneur.

The key to starting any business is to advertise.
Inexpensive ways to do that are:
1. Flyers. Make up something that is very clean, and easy to understand. Have all important information on there, such as: your name, telephone number, prices, and even a few testimonies would be nice. These testimonies could be a few sentences from friends, or family members that you have helped in the past.
Also, list on there all the benefits to them for hiring your services. Keep in mind that benefits answer the question, “What’s it in for them?” Do not list features of your service, which is what you do. People want to know one thing, which is, “What’s in it for me?”
2. Make up some free business cards at vista printing on the web. All you pay for is shipping. Think of one huge benefit statement for you card. Put this in the required fields, rather than your address. You will have 2 lines of space to work with if you do this. Telling them how your service will benefit them is much more important than what your address is.
3. Make up poster’s, and ask local plant, and pet stores, and also veterinarian offices if you can put them in their window for you.
Doing these 3 simple, and cost effective forms of advertising, should start the ball rolling for you.
Now is the perfect time, too, as people will be making plans to vacation.
